The Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve was established in 1974 as a partnership between Austin and Travis County. The preserve was initially known as the Barton Creek Greenbelt Nature Preserve. In 1998, the name was changed to the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve to reflect the preserve’s natural character better. The Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is open daily from dawn until dusk.
