The Caswell House
The Daniel H. Caswell House is a stunning, turn-of-the century home situated near the Texas State Capitol and The University of Texas. It is an excellent setting for weddings, receptions, business meetings, luncheons, fundraisers, and other events. Prices are reasonable, and there is plenty of flexibility when choosing caterers and other services.
The Austin Junior Forum, a women’s volunteer organization, owns and operates the house. All proceeds from renting the house go back into the community through grants and community service projects. This chic mansion is also honored on the National Register of Historic Places, recognized as a Texas Historic Landmark, and listed as a City of Austin Historic Landmark.
Etiquette classes
The Caswell House Etiquette Class is a six-week program beginning in mid-June and ending in July. Enrollment for the class is limited to 12 students per class and is open to both girls and boys.
Essential Etiquette is meant for students ages 6-13 and meets on Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. This is the program that the Caswell House has offered for the past several years and include topics such as social skills, dining skills, introductions, telephone etiquette, public speaking, and more.

All classes will be held at The Caswell House located at 1404 West Avenue 15th Street. In order to receive a certificate of completion at the final lesson, attendance is required at all lessons.
Parents are expected to drop-off and pick-up their students on time.
For Lessons 1-5, students should dress casually; however, for Lesson 6, students should wear dressy attire such as dresses or suits for girls and coat with tie for boys. Lesson 6 will combine both Wednesday sessions into one formal dinner event from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Some food will be provided at each lesson; however, it will not be a full meal. If your student has any allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know upon enrollment.
Weddings and events
The Daniel H. Caswell House exudes classic elegance and makes for an excellent choice to host your wedding celebration. It can accommodate 200 people for a stand-up reception, 100 for a ceremony, or 90 for a seated dinner party. The wrap-around porches on the first and second floors offer a peaceful gathering place for you and your guests, while the second floor boasts a lovely view of the state capitol dome.
The front hall will extend a warm welcome on your behalf, making it the perfect place for greeting guests, signing the guest book, or offering a coat-check service. Guests can mingle in the parlor and dining rooms downstairs while the bride and groom prepare to make their appearance. These rooms can be personalized for your special day by displaying family photos and mementos on the shelves and other furnishings throughout the rooms.
The library on the first floor provides a quiet retreat for the groom and other men in the wedding party to get dressed and relax. Upstairs, the study serves as the bride’s room, where she and her attendants may change clothes and make other preparations related to the ceremony and reception. For her convenience, the bride’s room has a private restroom. Meanwhile, the main room on the second floor can serve as both a wedding ceremony venue and comfortable banquet hall with an intimate dance floor. Hardwood floors, chandeliers, three fireplaces, and a Steinway piano all work together to make this expansive room seem warm and cozy. The Caswell House can provide tables, chairs, bars, public address system and a podium for a nominal rental fee–or you’re welcome to bring in your own furniture rentals. If you choose to use our furnishings, we will set up the room before your event starts and return rented items back into storage after your event has ended. With full kitchens on both floors that are connected by an elevator, serving guests is easy throughout the house no matter where they are congregating. You are free to choose your own caterer and other service providers; However, if you use one of our preferred caterers then you’ll receive an additional hour of rental free of charge.
A beautiful bride deserves a beautiful setting for photographs; luckily, the well-appointed rooms of Caswell House offer many classic vignettes for portraiture opportunities. Because we want you to remember your wedding forever, included with rental of our house for weddings is that brides may use the house during office hours for bridal portraits free of charge.
